The New Zealand based platform Sharesies provides a facility to invest in over 170 New Zealand listed companies, more than 35 managed funds, and many many more Australian and US listed shares.
Sharesies has an auto-invest feature that lets you set-and-forget investments into a Global, Responsible, or DIY order. There’s also an order suited to kids, only available via Kids Accounts.
Sharesies is easy to use if you are reasonably computer literate and you must have a computer or smartphone to use Sharesies.
There is no minimum investment. You can invest as little as 1 cent into any fund or listed company. Investors manage their portfolio via the Sharesies website and/or the app. There is now no membership or annual user fee. The transaction fees are low, and because Sharesies offers fractionalised shares, investors can invest as little as 1 cent in any share or fund. You can invest 1 cent in a Mainfreight or Xero share. With $5 you could invest in 500 different company shares. An investor could purchase a fraction of every share on the New Zealand share market for less than $2. So the transaction fees are very cost effective.
Sharesies transaction fees are low and simple. Transaction fees are capped on individual buy, sell, and auto-invest orders for US, NZ, and Australian shares. Up to the capped amount, there’s a 1.9% transaction fee on the amount invested. Capped ampunts per order are US shares: $5 USD, NZ Shares $25, Australian Shares $15 AUD. Regular investors can take advatage of their monthly plans which charge a set monthly fee in echange for reduced per transaction fees. Orders for managed funds (funds not listed on an exchange) aren’t charged a transaction fee. For a full description of Sharesies fees see here https://www.sharesies.nz/pricing.
For US Shares you have access to over 3,000 companies and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) across the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), Nasdaq, and Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE). For Australian Shares you have access to over 2,000 Australian shares and ETFs.
The New Zealand funds are offered by Pathfinder Asset Management (an ethical fund manager), AMP Capital, and Smartshares.
